FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions) We are asked many questions regarding terms and abbreviations used in the NSP (National Sisterhood of Presvyteres). So, we have decided to create this page to explain them. If available, links to the appropriate websites have been provided. This will be an ongoing process. If you can think of anything to add to this page, please e-mail the information to Pauline Pavlakos. Thank you.
- ABC: Archdiocese Benefits Committee
- APC: Archdiocese Presbyters Council, Fr. Steve Tsichlis, President.
- Benevolent Fund: The APC-NSP Benevolent Fund was established to provide short-term support for clergy families in a time of crisis. Aid is available to celibate and married clergy. Understanding that confidentiality is of utmost concern, if you know of someone who could benefit from this fund, or if you need help yourself, please contact Presvytera Cynthia Paleologos, President NSP; Presvytera Stephanie Panagos, Vice President; or Fr. Steve Tsichlis, APC President.
- Biennial Retreat: The NSP sponsors a retreat for presvyteres on the "Off-Clergy-Laity-Years" over the Columbus Day weekend. The first retreat was held in 1999 at Our Lady of the Snows in Belleville, IL. Mother Christophora of the Holy Transfiguration Monastery in Ellwood City, PA was the Retreat Master and the theme was "We Are All Members of Another" (Ephesians 4:25). The second retreat was held in 2001 at St. Malo Retreat Center in Estes Park, CO. Fr. Costa Sitaras, Director of Saint Basil Academy was the Retreat Master and the theme was "The Pastor's Wife: A Movie or Real Life." The third retreat was held October 10-12, 2003 at Antiochian Village in Ligonier, PA. Our fourth retreat was held October 7-10, 2005 at Resurrection Center in Woodstock, IL. Our featured speaker was His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios of America and the theme was "Building Clergy Families on Faith and Love."
This year's retreat will be held October 5-8 at Mercy Retreat Center in Burlingame, California (only 10 minutes from the San Francisco Airport). The retreat is sponsored by the Metropolis of San Francisco Sisterhood of Presvyteres, along with the National Sisterhood. Mark your calendars now, arrange for childcare, and get excited--very excited!

- Patron Saints of the NSP, who are they? Our Patron Saints are Martha and Mary. The Apolytikion is: Since you believe in Christ with strong and ardent faith, and ever worshipped His divine and mighty deeds, you both adorned yourselves with all the splendor of sacred virtues. With your holy brother now, you are also granted to dwell with the ranks of saints on high, O sisters of Lazarus, and with him O wise Mary and Martha, pray for us all unto the Master.
- RCA: Retired Clergy Association, Fr. William Gaines, President
- Sister-to-Sister: An outreach program for those whose husbands have been newly ordained. The new presvytera/diaconissa is contacted at a diocese level via a phone call and welcomed to the NSP by their diocese rep. She will then receive a fun package from the NSP with pertinent information. She will also have a "Big Sister Presvytera" contact her to bring her to the next diocese event or just talk. Contact Nicole Keares for more information.
- Stewardship: "How much are our dues?" That question has been asked frequently. We do not have "dues." We operate by stewardship donations. The amount is determined by the individual. Please mail your stewardship donation to our Treasurer: Maria Kerhulas, 616 South Laflin, Chicago, IL 60607.
- TLC: The Listening Connection--a peer ministry where trained listeners (selected from sister presvyteres) offer listening support to any presvytera who calls and maintain confidentiality. Contact Shyla Hadzellis for more information.
